It is now easier to get a £500 support payment if you have to self-isolate. Essex County Council and other local councils have simplified the discretionary Test and Trace Support scheme.
You must self-isolate if you or someone you’ve had contact with tests positive for Covid-19. You risk spreading the virus and could be fined if you don’t. You may be eligible for a discretionary payment if you are:
• employed, including self-employed or on a zero hours contract
• earn less than £500 a week net
• have household savings less than £16,000 and
• unable to work from home
• the parent or guardian of a child or young person told to self-isolate and you need to take time off to look after them.
If you are on a low income and receive benefits, you may be eligible for a payment from the national scheme.
