Friday 8 May is the 75th anniversary of VE Day. Although we can’t have the street parties and services that were originally planned, we’re bringing together people from our community so that we can all mark this historic day at home and pay tribute to the service and sacrifice of the WWII generation.
Chelmsford City Council will be broadcasting a virtual ceremony on the @ChelmsCouncil Facebook page with all the things we’d usually have in a civic celebration. The Mayor of Chelmsford, Cllr Bob Massey will be leading proceedings and there’ll be readings from Council Leader Cllr Stephen Robinson, pupils from our local schools, The Royal British Legion and Chelmsford Cathedral.
The Essex Yeomanry Band will be playing The Last Post and there’ll be music from the time, including performances from one of our local Broomfield Hospital nurses. The broadcast will commence at 2.55pm – keep an eye on @ChelmsCouncil social media pages for more information next week.
