Green Home Grants

Please note: This grant is being publicised by SWFH&SCG as we know many of the people we’ve been and continue to support will be badly affected by the huge increases in energy bills as well as the increase in other prices and so taking advantage of this scheme may help people stay warm and be good for health and wellbeing.

Grants to make your home cheaper to run

Thousands of pounds in Government grants are still available for Chelmsford residents to claim for improvements which can help cut their energy bills – but time is running out.

Green Home Grants can help to pay for up to £10,000 of insulation, heating (except gas and oil boilers), heating controls, hot water systems, ventilation, solar thermal, solar panels or lighting.

Who can apply for the grants?

Eligibility for the grants is wider than many people realise. If your household income is less than £20,000 per year after your mortgage and council tax, you could be eligible. You may also qualify if a member of your household is receiving certain benefits.

  • Armed Forces Independence Payment
  • Attendance Allowance
  • Carer’s Allowance
  • Child Tax Credit
  • Constant Attendance Allowance
  • Disability Living Allowance
  • Guaranteed Pension Credit
  • income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Income Support
  • Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit
  • Personal Independence Payment
  • Severe Disablement Allowance
  • Universal Credit
  • War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement
  • Working Tax Credit

Your home’s energy performance certificate (EPC) rating needs to be D, E, F or G. You can check your EPC rating online.

What if you rent?

You need to own your home to apply, but if you rent, funding is also available for your landlord. A 33% contribution from the landlord is needed and the maximum funding per property is £5,000.
