The Moving Parents and Children Together (M-PACT) programme was developed by Action on Addiction, and is now part of The Forward Trust, in response to the 2003 Hidden Harm report. The report highlighted how parental substance misuse can affect children, and the programme aims to improve the well-being of families by helping them work together to understand the impact.
The programme is a group psychosocial intervention that includes eight core group sessions, a family review session, and a 12-week reunion. It’s designed to help families learn about addiction and its impact. As well as learning about communication and coping strategies, and the programme can help to reduce shame and stigma.
The programme has been shown to improve global family functioning, coping efficacy, and communication, and has been noted as an effective intervention in several government and academic publications.
