If you need quick advice for a sore throat, skin issue or stomach bug, your local pharmacy can help with expert treatment and advice – usually without an appointment. It’s fast, friendly and often quicker than seeing your GP. 

Why use Pharmacy First? 

Pharmacies aren’t just for prescriptions – they’re your fast track to expert health advice. 

Here’s why they’re a great first stop: 

  • No waiting around – walk in and speak to a pharmacist, there is usually no appointment needed. 
  • Trained professionals – community pharmacists are fully qualified healthcare experts. 
  • Faster care – get help for minor illnesses without needing to see your GP. 

Many pharmacies are open evenings and weekends too – making them a convenient option when you’re busy or need help outside normal hours.

Conditions covered by Pharmacy First 

Under the Pharmacy First service, you can now get expert advice and, if needed, treatment for: 

  • earache (aged 1 to 17 years) 
  • impetigo (aged 1 year and over) 
  • infected insect bites (aged 1 year and over) 
  • shingles (aged 18 years and over) 
  • sinusitis (aged 12 years and over) 
  • sore throat (aged 5 years and over) 
  • urinary tract infections or UTIs (women aged 16 to 64 years). 

Even if you’re not in the age range listed, pharmacists will still assess your symptoms and refer you to the right service if needed.
