National investigation into the standards of maternity and neonatal care

We have learnt this morning that Health Secretary Wes Streeting has announced a national investigation into the standards of maternity and neonatal care across the country.

This follows families in Nottingham and East Kent raising concerns about the care they received.

We have been named as one of ten Trusts that the independent panel will be looking at, although we don’t know what criteria has been used to choose the organisations involved.

Our peri-natal mortality rates are within the expected levels, so are not a cause for concern, but we do have two CQC enforcement notices relating to our maternity services and are working to deliver the actions which we know are improving the safety of maternity care and the experience of the families using our hospitals.

We have not received any detail about the investigation, but will keep you fully updated.
