Following a rise in norovirus cases in local hospitals, NHS Mid and South Essex is urging local people to postpone visits to relatives and friends in hospital if they are feeling unwell, have been ill in the last 48 hours, or have had contact with someone exhibiting flu-like symptoms, diarrhoea, or vomiting.
Norovirus is highly contagious and can cause symptoms including vomiting, diarrhoea, fever, headaches, stomach cramps, and aching limbs.
Residents are urged not to attend healthcare settings if they are experiencing symptoms of this common winter bug, which is best managed at home with rest and plenty of fluids.
