Find Your Active October 2023

Finding your active has never been easier and with the help of digital platforms and technologies, you can get active anywhere, at any time! Platforms like YouTube, TikTok and Instagram have a wide variety of videos to inspire you and even Active Essex have a YouTube channel full of workouts and videos.

Utilising digital platforms to get moving is a great way to start your journey as you can explore many activities and movements from home which will make you feel more comfortable. These platforms being free also means everyone can get involved. Digital technologies enable you to find something you enjoy and can return to again and start building your confidence and strength!

Gamification of movement can make it fun too! Gamification is when game mechanics are added into non game environments to introduce competition and increase participation. One example of this would be Street Tag. Street Tag is a gamified healthy lifestyle app that promotes participation in physical activity. Street Tag turns physical activity into a game by converting walking, running, and cycling into points. It transforms streets into a virtual playground for the local community.

With the wide range that’s available online you can find something that works at your own pace. The Able Like Mabel campaign that promotes gentle exercises for older residents to build strength and resilience is another way to reintroduce movement to your routine and using digital platforms alongside this can build upon the daily time spent moving.

With the October half term coming up as well it’s a perfect opportunity to explore different ways to get moving as a family with the help of technology! You could download the GoJauntly app and find new walking routes near you and also create your own. When it’s back to school time, continue getting those steps in and celebrate Walk to School month! We want to encourage children across the county to try walking to school as many days as they can. School walking groups can be created if children live near each other so that they can chat and walk at the same time and learn more about each other!

It’s about finding what works for you and finding the enjoyment in movement! Visit:
