Radio Drama Workshop for students, Tuesday 30 May 2023 1000-1400 at Club Woodham

School & College Students between 11-20 are invited to expand their media skills and experience in a Radio Drama Workshop brought to South Woodham Ferrers on 30 May 2023. This is part of the new Chelmsford Radio Drama Festival (29 May – 9 June 2023), supported by Chelmsford City Council Local Cultural Education Partnership.

This audio workshop, run by Chelmsford Community Radio, will help with creative writing, performance and seeing how Radio Drama is produced. These transferrable skills will boost experience and confidence. The Archers is part of the GCSE Media syllabus. The Archers is a 70 year old soap opera, just like Eastenders and Coronation Street, that tackles topical subjects, human experiences and traumas of day to day life. This requires research, planning, script development, and audio production. It’s vital to get the sounds right and fine tune the editing process. These things apply across the whole of the media sector, and further afield in public speaking, business marketing and customer facing roles. Confidence builds resilience in how to interact with other people and be more secure as individuals.

12 places are available; so apply by Sunday 21 May 2023 to swfhealthsocial@outlook.com with a short email telling us who you are and why you’re interested.

Plays gathered from the Festival will be broadcast on Chelmsford Community Radio afterwards.

In the second part of the Festival  there will be  a “Listening Sessions” with one also at Club Woodham on the evening of Thursday 8 June at 6pm. The comfortable setting, with refreshments available, will listen to a selection of Radio Drama. Scripts will be available on Kindles so the dialogue can be followed better. The plays being showcased at our listening session in South Woodham Ferrers will include the work from the previous week’s workshop and an opportunity for those who took part to bring in friends and family members to hear all of their hard work. Tickets will be free with a limit of 30 spaces, available on Eventbrite.

This is produced in conjunction with SWF Health & Social Care Group as part of our collaboration with the Chelmsford Cultural Strategy.
