FREE Low-calorie Programme

Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System

In the previous emails, I have discussed the importance of making change as easy as possible, thinking about how your environment can influence positive habits and the importance of celebrating success.

In a step to support local people to take control so that they can live a happy, healthy life we want to help promote different tools and services that are available.

In this email I want to highlight a FREE low calorie programme that is now available to the NHS to adults living within mid and south Essex, aged 18 – 65 years, who have a diagnosis of Type 2 Diabetes within the last 6 years and struggling to keep to a healthy weight.

Being overweight is partly responsible for more than a third of all long-term health conditions.

These include:

Being overweight can also affect your quality of life and lead to psychological problems, such as depression and low self-esteem.

The NHS Low Calorie Diet is a totally free diet replacement programme, available to eligible patients. It is designed to help reduce your diabetes medications, lose weight, improve your health and potentially reverse Type 2 Diabetes.

The year-long programme, which is fully supported and monitored by expert clinicians and coaches throughout, kickstarts weightloss using total diet replacement products including soups and shakes consisting of up to 900 calories a day for up to 12 weeks.

After this, a carefully managed plan reintroduces healthy, nutritious food and participants can track their progress through virtual one-to-ones, group sessions or digital support – to help them maintain a healthier weight.

If you would like to know more or would like to find out whether you are eligible for the programme, please do make an appointment or discuss the programme with your GP practice at your next planned diabetes review.
